When meeting Dr. Warwick Phipps, one is immediately drawn to the sense of safety and genuine care he creates, alongside his expertise and dedication to advancing mental health care. As the Founder and Director of Treatment Works Health Care Centre, Dr. Phipps has cultivated an environment that embodies a high standard of care with compassion, ensuring both clients and practitioners feel supported and empowered.
Dr. Phipps is a much respected Clinical Psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology, earned with distinction from the Medical University of Southern Africa (now Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University). As a Senior Lecturer and Supervisor in the Department of Clinical Psychology at the university, he played a valuable role in training future psychologists, overseeing modules such as Interactional Therapy (otherwise called the Systems Approach or Couple & Family Therapy), Neuropsychology, and Psychological Assessment. His role extended to supervising psychotherapy practicums at the Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital, further highlighting his passion for education and professional development.
Beyond his contributions to academia, Dr. Phipps is a former President of the International Family Therapy Association (IFTA), where now as a Director he continues to actively contribute to global initiatives in family therapy. His many presentations at IFTA International Congresses underscores his commitment to participating in innovative approaches and fostering international dialogue. His work alongside Prof Charl Vorster, the founder of the Interactional Pattern Analysis (IPA), reflects his influence in refining therapeutic methodologies. As a co-author and trainer, he has equipped many therapists with practical tools to achieve meaningful change in their clinical practice.
Dr. Phipps’ academic achievements include numerous peer-reviewed publications and editorial roles with international journals, such as the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy and the International Journal of Systemic Therapy. His affiliations with established institutions, alongside advisory roles with organizations like the Satir Institute of the Pacific, demonstrate his standing as a thought leader in the field.
